Yankees Acevedo looks to extend streak

Shaw, 23, homered on Monday for the first time since being promoted to Triple-A Sacramento. He also doubled before finishing 2-for-5, giving Shaw a .286/.318/.571 batting line through five games in the Pacific Coast League, each of which he’s started in left field. The 2015 first-rounder (No. 31 overall) received his promotion after hitting .301/.390/.511 with six homers and 29 RBIs in 37 games for Double-A Richmond.

Pitcher to watch: Domingo Acevedo (Yankees’ No. 12), Trenton vs. Binghamton (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Speaking of promotions, Acevedo has been outstanding since getting a bump up to Double-A Trenton. The 23-year-old right-hander has posted 13 2/3 scoreless innings across his first two starts for the Thunder, with 14 strikeouts and just seven hits allowed in that span. In his most recent turn, Acevedo fired 7 1/3 innings of three-hit ball with nine strikeouts. He’s pitched to a 3.44 ERA with 66 strikeouts and 11 walks in 55 innings (nine starts) this season.

Duel of the day: Lucas Giolito (White Sox No. 4) vs. Austin Voth (Nationals’ No. 7), Charlotte at Syracuse (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Giolito, the No. 31 overall prospect, made headlines by throwing a seven-inning no-hitter against his former organization when Triple-A Charlotte and Syracuse, with Voth on the mound, matched up last week. Suffice to say it was a much-needed strong performance from the 22-year-old right-hander after going 1-5 with a 6.41 ERA and eight home runs allowed in 39 1/3 innings (eight starts) to open the season.

Voth took the loss for Syracuse in last week’s matchup, though he did turn in a complete-game effort, allowing four earned runs on six hits in six innings. After showing plus control and command for much of his career, Voth, 24, has issued a career-worst 4.5 walks-per-nine this season (23 BB in 46 IP) in his second tour of the International League. Overall, he owns a 1-5 record with a 4.89 ERA through nine starts.
